Understanding Life Coaching

New to coaching?

Here's everything you need to know — in plain language — before we talk.

What Is Life Coaching?

A conversation that changes the way you see yourself.

Life coaching is a forward-focused, deeply personal conversation. It is not advice-giving, and it is not therapy. It is a structured space where you — with the support of a coach — get to slow down, think clearly, and discover what you truly want and what has been standing in the way.

The coach doesn't have the answers. You do. The coach's role is to ask the right questions, listen deeply, and help you access the clarity, courage, and direction that already live inside you.

Coaching is grounded in a fundamental belief: that every person is whole, capable, and resourceful — and that with the right support, growth is always possible.

In a coaching session, you might explore:

◆ What you truly want from this chapter of your life

◆ What your values are and whether your life reflects them

◆ What patterns or beliefs are keeping you stuck

◆ What your strengths are and how to use them more

◆ What small, meaningful steps you can take right now

◆ Who you are becoming through a transition or challenge

A Common Question

What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

Therapy tends to focus on...

Healing past wounds and processing painful experiences

Diagnosing and treating mental health conditions

Understanding how the past shapes the present

Working through trauma, grief, or clinical concerns

Coaching focuses on...

Where you are now and where you want to go

Unlocking your potential, clarity, and forward momentum

Setting meaningful goals and taking real action

Building on your strengths and what's already working

Both are valuable, and neither replaces the other. If you're navigating something that feels beyond coaching — I'll always be honest with you and point you toward the right support.

"What if instead of focusing on what's wrong, we focused on what's possible?"

This is the heart of positive psychology coaching — a strengths-based, forward-focused approach grounded in the science of wellbeing.

What Is Positive Psychology Coaching?

Rooted in your strengths, not your problems.

Positive psychology coaching is informed by positive psychology — the science of what makes people flourish. Rather than spending all our energy on what's broken, we focus on your values, your strengths, your hopes, and the future you want to build.

This doesn't mean ignoring difficulty — life is complex and challenges deserve to be acknowledged. It means we don't stop there. We use every challenge as a doorway into greater self-knowledge and growth.
